Dr. Peters is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Born and raised in Eastern Maine, he graduated from Boston University's Biomedical Engineering Program with high honors. After earning a graduate degree in Maine, he went to medical school in Vermont, completed his internship in Maine and ophthalmology residency in New York, where he was also appointed the chief resident. Dr. Peters then embarked on an extraordinary course of subspecialty training. His first fellowship in New York was followed by another in ocular immunology and uveitis at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and then a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Edinburgh. Since completing his training, Dr. Peters was on the full-time faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the part-time faculty at medical schools in Massachusetts and New York. Dr. Peters has attended, presented, moderated and has been an invited panelist at multiple meetings in North and South America, Asia and Europe. His research includes intravitreal drug administration, new therapies for uveitis, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Dr. Peters' multiple publications are found in all three major American ophthalmology journals, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and in Retina. He has been the recipient of many professional awards and is a member of every discipline's honor society in which he has a degree and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition to presenting research on most of them, he has enjoyed adventure travel to all of the world's continents.
